Nieuw bibliotheekgebouw Qatar National Library – ontwerp Rem Koolhaas
November 19, 2012 – Doha, Qatar – Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development has officially launched the project to build the new Qatar National Library (QNL). The announcement was made by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the Chairperson of Qatar Foundation.
Het ontwerp van de nieuwe Qatar National Library is van de Nederlandse architect Rem Koolhaas [OMA] en het project moet eind 2014 gereed zijn.
De aankondiging viel samen met de viering van het vijftig jarig bestaan van Dar-al-Kutub, the Gulf Region’s first national library which opened in Doha in 1962
Qatar National Library heeft een film in twee delen gemaakt, ’50 years Anniversary Film’ in HD-kwaliteit (bekijk fullscreen, 1080 p). In het tweede deel worden de plannen voor de nieuwe bibliotheek toegelicht.
