This animated fly-through video takes you into The New York Public Library’s Central Library Plan, designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Norman Foster. Entering via the 42nd Street library’s iconic Fifth Avenue entrance, the camera travels on an east-to-west axis through the building’s first floor: passing through Astor Hall, which remains untouched by construction; then through a new, permanent exhibition of library treasures in an enhanced Gottesman Exhibition Hall; and into the new lending library—a multilevel, light-filled space overlooking Bryant Park and featuring books to browse and check out, new centers for children and teens, vibrant meeting areas as well as quiet study zones, and more.

Dit project gaat om herschikking van afdelingen en vernieuwing van de grote ruimte onder de beroemde Rose Main Reading Room (2e foto hieronder). De verbouwing moet in 2018 gereed zijn.

“The New York Public Library’s Central Library Plan will create a state-of-the-art circulating library within its flagship 42nd Street location, the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, restoring the 101-year-old landmark to its original mission while preserving its historic public spaces and enhancing research services.”
