Agatha Christie’s Greenway House open voor publiek
Greenway House, het vakantiehuis in Devon, van schrijfster Agatha Christie is na een grondige restauratie m.i.v. 28 februari 2009 toegankelijk voor het publiek.
Met de restauratie, kosten 5,4 miljoen Pond en uitgevoerd door de National Trust, is het huis weer teruggebracht in de staat waarin het rond 1950 verkeerde. Agatha Christie kocht het huis in 1938 en hield het tot 1959 in gebruik, waarna het in handen kwam van haar dochter Rosalind Hicks. In 2000 besloot de familie het hele landgoed van 120 hectare over te dragen aan de National Trust.
De prachtige tuinen waren al eerder toegankelijk voor het publiek en nu kan dus ook in het huis worden rond gekeken.

“It has been an enormous and expensive task to restore the house and garden. But I hope that visitors will come and enjoy them in the way that many of the previous owners have done – as a family holiday home in which parties have congregated and celebrated a combined interest in gardens, a love for travel, literature and music as well as the beauty and inspiration of Devon and its surrounding coast and countryside”.
