Portretten van Mike Tsang in Biblion Gallery Londen – tot 7 nov. 2009

Biblion Mayfair is een labyrintisch complex, onderdeel van Grays kunst en antiekcentrum in het centrum van Londen, waar 100 antiquariaten en tweedehands boekhandelaren ruimte huren om hun verzamelingen te tonen en te verkopen.
Biblion gaf deze zomer opdracht aan de Londense fotograaf Mike Tsjang (1982) om een serie portretten te maken van ‘London booksellers in their natural habitats’. Biblion Gallery presenteert nu een aantal van deze portretten onder de titel ‘The London Booktrade‘ tot 7 november 2009.

Biblion gaat dicht
Helaas las ik op dezelfde dag dat ik deze prachtige foto’s ontdekte, het bericht dat Biblion aan het eind van dit jaar zijn deuren sluit.
Shop-Managers Erik Perera: “Much as we would love to be a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to spreading bibliophilia among the masses, we are a business, and as such must answer to the laws of the marketplace, a tough challenge in these times as many of you can attest. On the 1st of October the board of directors … decided that the company was not performing to their expectations, and that it would, on the 24th of December, cease trading, later to be dissolved.”
